In 2015, something remarkable took shape in Australia—a bold initiative designed to bridge the gap between innovation and regulation. This was the birth of ASIC’s Innovation Hub, a space not just for ideas, but for action.
From the beginning, the Hub became a guiding light for fintech and regtech entrepreneurs striving to navigate the complex regulatory landscape of Australia. For many startups with breakthrough ideas, the Innovation Hub was their first port of call—a place where unfamiliar terms like “licensing obligations” and “regulatory relief” were made clearer, friendlier, and more accessible.
Behind the scenes, ASIC had a vision: to champion responsible innovation. The goal wasn’t just to support disruption, but to do so with care—ensuring markets remained fair and consumers protected. This vision translated into direct support, including informal regulatory guidance, the opportunity to test solutions through the Enhanced Regulatory Sandbox, and access to insights via the Digital Finance Advisory Panel (DFAP).
The Hub also became a meeting ground—where regulators, startups, and global partners exchanged ideas on the future of finance. On the regtech front, ASIC encouraged businesses to embrace compliance as a culture, using technology not just to meet obligations, but to excel.
And so, the Innovation Hub continues its story—supporting ideas, challenging norms, and guiding the next wave of innovators in building a safer, smarter financial world.
